The first of some new pieces I've been working on in my head for a while - finally getting them out.

Mark making, but with fabrics, stitching, beads, an airbrush, ribbon, etc. I feel like I need to make something I that I find comforting and pretty to look at - the world is stressing me out, perhaps that reflected in these with the fragility of the materials, transparency. Something feels nostalgic when I look at the pearls and crystals embedded in the fur.

This piece marks the beginning of a new body of works that I've been developing conceptually for some time. In this series, I approach mark-making through unconventional materials—treating fabric, stitching, beads, ribbon, and airbrushed pigment as both gesture and language.

Layered organza becomes a translucent ground where marks are not only painted but embedded and constructed. Invisible thread suspends elements in space, while faux fur, glass pearls, and aurora borealis crystals create points of light and texture that shift as the viewer moves. The materials carry a deliberate sense of softness, fragility and transparency—qualities that echo the emotional atmosphere in which the work was created.

These works emerged from a desire to make something visually comforting—something soft, luminous, and quietly nostalgic. The embedded pearls and crystals evoke memory and ornament, while the fur introduces warmth and tactility, creating a tension between delicacy and presence. Together, these materials form a kind of atmospheric landscape.

This work sits between painting and textile sculpture, expanding the language of mark-making beyond the brush. It invites viewers to consider how surface, transparency, and embellishment can hold emotional weight.
